LAKE PLACID - Three candidates running for the Lake Placid Central School District Board of Education will participate in meet-and-greet next week.

The event, which is being sponsored by the Community Alliance for Responsible Excellence in Education, will start at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Lake Placid Middle-High School Library Media Center.

Two three-year terms on the school board are up for grabs in the May 21 election. Three people are running for the open seats: John Hopkinson, Jennifer Tufano and Richard Preston.

Polls will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. In addition to selecting new board members, voters will also decide whether to approve a $17,264,976 budget that would raise the tax levy by 3 percent. The board is also seeking voter approval of an approximately $731,000 energy project; the district will implement the project regardless of the vote, but if voters approve the ballot initiative, the school will be eligible for an additional 10 percent in state aid.
