SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a brush fire on the shoulder of state Route 86, just past Adirondack Medical Center, at 7:51 p.m. Sunday with three trucks and 18 members.

Firefighters said the blaze scorched a 30-by-300-foot area along the road.

A discarded cigarette is believed to have been the cause, firefighters said.
