Shrope hosts opening Friday at NorthWind Fine Arts

SARANAC LAKE - Peter Shrope will host a gallery opening for a new installation of his work from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the NorthWind Fine Arts gallery, 36 Broadway, Saranac Lake.

It is free and open to all.

The exhibit will feature his original Adirondack Rockware pottery that he began developing over four years ago. His research and experimentation in using native Adirondack rock as an ingredient in ceramic glazes references contemporary trends in thinking about and using local materials. He embraces and pays homage to the "Adirondack Style" by his use of locally crushed rock used in his original glaze recipes.

"Local materials have always played a role in the objects a culture produces and how its identity is defined," Shrope said. "My use of locally mined crush rock in my glaze recipes follows a long standing process and tradition. I feel fortunate to be part of that process."

More of Peter's work can be seen a www.northwindfinearts.com.
