Police set road closures for Daffest

SARANAC LAKE - Village police have announced the road closures and detours that will be in effect Saturday for the third annual Daffest, including the Daffest Derby soap-box car races.

LaPan Highway (state Route 3), from Main Street to Canaras Avenue, and Main Street, from River Street to Lake Street, will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6 a.m. until the events in that area end. The derby starts at 11 a.m. on LaPan Highway; Daffest events in Riverside Park run from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m.

Vehicles traveling toward downtown on Kiwassa Road will be detoured onto Lake Street, Petrova Avenue and Canaras Avenue, village police said.

Eastbound traffic on state Route 3 will be detoured onto Edgewood Road, Ampersand Avenue and Broadway.

Motorists traveling west on state Route 86 and who want to continue west on Route 3 will be detoured onto Church Street, Bloomingdale Avenue, Broadway, Ampersand Avenue and Edgewood Road.

Village police also said there will be restricted lanes of traffic at Main and River streets on the north side of the intersection (by the Harrietstown Town Hall). All truck traffic will be directed onto the detour routes.

Motorists are urged to use caution in the area of Main and River streets near the events as there will be an increase in pedestrian traffic.
