State tests prompt ‘Race to Nowhere’ doc

April 18, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake Parent Faculty Education Alliance has purchased "Race to Nowhere," a documentary film about the stress kids today experience because of high-stakes testing, along with a license to screen it as many times as the group wishes at the Petrova School auditorium.

The first screening is planned for 6:30 p.m. Thursday (given building use approval from the school district).

That day culminates the third and final day of state testing for English language arts, with the state test for math beginning the following week. The group hopes to educate as many parents, faculty and community members as possible about the effect our current education model, which includes high-stakes testing, has on the next generation. Child care will be provided in the gymnasium.

There will be a discussion after the film.
