To the editor:
Closure of the Lake Placid emergency room would be a disservice to the community of Lake Placid and its surrounding areas.
On Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, I was in Lake Placid to attend an all-county concert my son was performing in. I was brought to the Lake Placid ER by my husband, as I was experiencing health difficulties. I urged my husband to return to the concert, since the doctor and nurses were quickly attending to me. After many tests, I was diagnosed with having a mild heart attack. Had we traveled to Saranac Lake, I could have had a major heart attack and my husband would have missed our son's great performance.
Lake Placid needs to have an ER. 9.59 miles (15 minutes) is so crucial when determining a mild heart attack or a major heart attack. Thank you to the doctor and nurses for your quick response as soon as I walked in the door.
