TUPPER LAKE - The village board will hold a hearing tonight on increasing the limit for a sewer discount for senior citizens.

The village currently gives a $10 discount on sewer rents to senior citizens making $15,000 a year. Village Clerk Mary Casagrain last month proposed to increase that number to $17,000, saying that a number of senior citizens in Tupper Lake are just out of the range of that number due to cost of living increases.

"Some of them are just a couple hundred dollars over that threshold," Casagrain said. "I don't think there's going to be a big run on the village."

About 30 seniors use the discount now, while the board had anticipated about 70 when they instituted the program, Casagrain said at March's regular village board meeting.

The hearing is set for 5:45 p.m. today at the village board room at 53 Park St.
