Ice, slush, rain, etc.

April 12, 2013

SARANAC LAKE - It's a day people spend a lot of time looking down. They do so while walking slowly, to keep from slipping and wiping out.

Freezing rain, sleet, snow and plenty of regular rain today made for a slick and sloppy mix on the ground and the beginnings of ice accumulation on the tips of tree limbs by midday.

The National Weather Service forecast freezing rain and sleet for the rest of today. Temperatures were expected to hover around freezing, with about a tenth of an inch of total ice accumulation and a half-inch of sleet accumulation.

The weather prompted most Tri-Lakes area schools to close today.
