7-Eleven hints at possible sale, lease of Wilmington gas station

A gas station and convenience store in Wilmington could remain open as its current owner is in talks with its landlord to find a buyer or someone to lease the location.

By the end of the month, however, it will no longer be a Wilson Farms store. The chain's owner, 7-Eleven Inc. - which bought 188 Wilson Farms stores in 2011 - is getting out of Wilmington and other North Country locations, according to Margaret Chabris, director of corporate communications for 7-Eleven. The stores "are not close to any of our existing markets," she said.

"So we will discontinue our operation of them," Chabris wrote in an email to the Enterprise. "However, we do not actually own the building; we only lease the property. We are working with the landlord who is trying to find a buyer or someone to lease this location and keep it as an ongoing business."

The property is owned by Phil Saunders, and the fuel tanks are owned by Schmitt Sales of western New York.

Chabris said 7-Eleven "will not be operating the store by the end of this month.

"But we are hopeful that someone else will," she added.

Meanwhile, a Wilson Farms store in Lake Placid is now owned by Stewart's Shops, which also has acquired a Wilson Farms in Keeseville.
