To the editor:
I am writing this letter to urge the proposal to close Lake Placid's emergency room 24-hour services to be reconsidered.
I am a 32-year-old man with a permanent tracheostomy, and I do not drive. Although I am healthy, if I were to have an emergency, it would be an airway emergency. I would need the services and close proximity of the Lake Placid ER. EMS could not secure the airway that is required and would have minutes only to get me to the emergency room. I assure you I would not make the 10-mile road trip to Saranac Lake. I believe that I have researched the time and miles I would need for services.
In closing, yes, I am just one patient, just one man, just one life saved. Just a thought to all concerned.
