LAKE PLACID - Members of the New York State Police and other law-enforcement agencies will be here for two days this week, starting Thursday, to train for response to "active shooter" situations.
The training will be held at the former W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center on Old Barn Road.
"This dynamic training uses simunitions to train state police members and invited law enforcement partners how to tactically enter a building and terminate the actions of an active shooter," a press release said. Simunitions are non-lethal training ammunition.
Participants will learn room and stairwell clearing techniques and also train to work as a team in this type of scenario, according to state police. It will include classroom presentations as well as hands-on, performance-based field training and scenario-based practical exercises. Instructors from the New York State Preparedness Training Center will lead the sessions.
