MALONE - A Saranac Lake man is among three people arrested recently for alleged criminal activity at the Franklin County Jail.
Neil F. Martin, 52, was charged with third-degree assault stemming from an altercation with another inmate at the jail, county Sheriff Kevin Mulverhill said in a Wednesday press release.
Martin has been in the county lock-up since his arrest in February on a felony criminal contempt charge. Village police said at the time of his initial arrest that Martin had violated a court order of protection.
He was arraigned on the assault charge before Bangor town Justice Frederick Boardway and remanded without bail back to the county jail. Martin is scheduled to appear in the Malone Town Court at a later date.
Two other people were arrested at the jail recently after what Mulverhill said was several weeks of investigation by sheriff's deputies and the Franklin County Northern Border Drug Task Force into illegal drug smuggling at the facility.
Shadoe L. Davis, 19, of Plattsburgh, allegedly smuggled narcotics into the jail while visiting inmate Keeton Seaquist.
Davis was charged with three counts of first-degree promoting prison contraband, three counts of fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, and single counts of fifth-degree attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned and released under the supervision of probation to reappear in Malone Town Court on April 9.
Seaquist, 27, also of Plattsburgh, was charged with three counts of first-degree promoting prison contraband, one count of sixth-degree conspiracy. Seaquist was arraigned and remanded back to the jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, to appear in Malone Town Court at a later date.
