Darwin B. Shumway, 68, of 52 Roosevelt Lane, Bloomingdale, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at his home.
Born in Saranac Lake on July 27, 1944, he was the son of Daniel and Fontabelle (Palmer) Shumway. Darwin married Lillian Henderson Aug. 28, 1971, in Camden.
Darwin had been employed by the Saranac Lake Central School District in the maintenance department for 40 years from 1968 to 2008 until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of the New York State National Guard for 20 years and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Darwin especially enjoyed working in his gardens and hunting.
He is survived by his wife Lillian of Bloomingdale; one son, Nathan Shumway of Dickenson; one daughter, Rebecca Shumway of Cortland; one brother, the Rev. Daniel Shumway of Bloomingdale; and one sister, Sharron Craig of Pulaski.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one sister Lorraine.
Calling hours will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Case officiating. Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Bloomingdale in the spring.
