Robert L. Burgess, 66, of 88 Walkerville Road, North Bangor, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013.
Born in East Orange, N.J., on Nov. 16, 1946, he was the son of James and Ruth (Ludwig) Burgess. Robert married Karen Nagel on June 2, 1967, at Irvington, N.J.
Robert had been employed by the New Jersey Transit in Union as a mechanic for many years until his retirement in 1996. Following his retirement, he moved to North Bangor. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also was a very talented craftsman and could make or build just about anything. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam era.
He is survived by his wife Karen Burgess of Union, N.J.; one son, James Burgess and his wife Jennifer of Gabriels; one daughter, Kimberly Burgess of Union, N.J.; three grandchildren: Lyndsay, Samantha and Kathrine; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Claira.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one brother Ronald Burgess and one grandson Lucas Burgess.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Robert's family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at the Pack Basket Diner in Gabriels. There will be a celebration of Robert's life on Tuesday evening at the diner at 6 p.m., with a military honors.
