Doris L. Myers, 87, of Cold Brook Road, Vermontville, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at her home.
Born in Chester on May 6, 1925, she was the daughter of Clifford and Bernice (Tannery) Laroe. She married Lucien Myers on Oct. 23, 1948, in Chester.
Doris moved to Vermontville in 1983 with her husband "Lou" after closing the family plumbing business in Warwick. She was a devoted mother and housewife enjoying many hobbies, including cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles and playing solitaire. Doris was well known for her green thumb, spending hours tending to both her indoor and outdoor gardens. An active outdoors woman, Doris assisted in the management of the family property that had included fish farming, most recently from her motorized wheelchair. In her "spare" time she entertained the wildlife such as hand feeding her favorite local bird, the gray jay. Known to many as "grammie," she will always be loved and greatly missed by her family.
The family would like to extend a very special thank-you to all of the fifth floor nurses at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh for their professional, compassionate and attentive care toward Doris during her stay prior to her death.
She is survived by her husband Lucien of Vermontville; four daughters: Pamela Berry and her husband Stephen of Francestown, N.H., Patricia Myers of Rocky Mount. N.C., Peggy Neill and her husband Charlie of Vermontville, and Joanne Diermeier and her husband Fritz of Warwick; nine grandchildren: Brenden, Krista, Justin, Kyle, Shannon, Carrie, Eric, Hal and Brett; and one great-grandchild, Fern.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one son, Lou, and one brother, James "Bus" Laroe.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
Friends wishing to remember Doris L. Myers may make memorial contributions to Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
