Fiddle rock Saturday with Callanach

UPPER JAY - Any band that flies under the "Celtic rock" banner is aiming to be a pub pleaser, and Rochester-based Callanach certainly lives up to that.

But one must wonder: How much are they Celtic, and how much are they rock?

Well, Callanach is built around fiery fiddler Marissa Ruper, so they have that base covered. And backing her are the blasting trio of electric guitarist Abe Ruper, electric bassist Aaron Powell and drummer Jim McGowan. In the middle, standing tall, is singer and acoustic multi-instrumentalist Ryan Rovito.
