Back row from left: Kellen Munn, Nick Bayruns, Taylor Pellerin, Hajro Cecunjanin, TJ Monroe, Craig Leahy, Quinn Urquhart and Michael Burpoe.
Chris was born in Oakland, Calif. when his father was in the Navy. He grew up in Clinton, N.Y. and would often vacation and explore in the Adirondacks.
Chris spent his first weekend in Saranac Lake in the summer of 1978 at campsite No. 17 on Lower Saranac Lake and took up residency in the village in 1986. He is a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Saranac Lake and was a founding member and choreographer of The Kiwanis Precision Marching Lawnmower Drill Team which participated in many Winter Carnival parades throughout the '90s.
Chris is the proud father of hockey-playing Alexandra, a 2011 graduate of SLHS. Chris is the broker, owner and founder of Guide Boat Realty, LLC. Saranac Lake's unique combination of health, history and the arts make it the best place to live in the Adirondacks.
Chris served as co-chair and sponsor of the Willard Hanmer Guideboat Races from 2002 to 2012, has served on the Board of Directors of the Saranac Lake Kiwanis Club since 1992 and on its scholarship committee since 1995. He served on the board of directors of the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce from 2000 to 2010 and has served on the Franklin County Empire Zone Advisory Board. He currently serves on the AEDC loan committee.
Chris was also chairperson of the 2009 NYSAHA Tier II Girls U-16 Hockey Tournament and has served on or presided over numerous real estate-related professional organizations.
And with all that, he has been a consistent, generous, long-term supporter of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival.
Chris, son of George and Barbara Kollmer and sibling to George, Kelly and Timothy, grew up on Long Island. He was raised wearing his brothers' (and sometimes sister's) clothes, playing with hand-me-down rusty Tonka trucks and eating the doughnuts no one else would eat.
He graduated from Connetquot High School and attended Stony Brook University majoring in history. He graduated with honors in 1998.
While at an out-of-state job fair he met the girl of his dreams, Lisa, who had also graduated from Connetquot High School. Rather than relocating out of state, Chris and Lisa decided to move to the best part of New York.
Chris initially taught social studies at North Babylon High School before coming to Saranac Lake High School where he has taught social studies for the past 13-and-a-half years. He has also coached lacrosse and is currently an adviser to the Outdoor Club.
In addition to teaching, Chris is the proud father of two beautiful boys - Jake and Cody, boys who are sure to terrorize the greater Saranac Lake area in the years to come.
Chris was flattered to be nominated by this year's Carnival Court and is proud to call Saranac Lake his family's home. He wishes everyone a happy carnival.
He would also like to warn everyone once again about those two beautiful little boys you heard it here first. Good luck!!
Kristaps, son of Juris and Ingrida Miemis and sibling to Inga and Karlis, grew up downstate as part of a tight-knit Latvian community. He attended the University of Delaware where he majored in social studies education. While there he met his beautiful wife-to-be Karen.
Upon graduation, they both moved to Lake Tahoe, Calif. Here they quenched their thirst for the great outdoors by skiing, hiking and traveling the American West in search of adventure.
Feeling too far from home, but not willing to change their lifestyle, they moved to beautiful Saranac Lake where they both currently serve the community as teachers in the Saranac Lake school district.
Since moving here, Kristaps has also coached lacrosse at the high school and currently serves as an adviser to the outdoor club and the senior slideshow.
Kristaps is the proud father of three energetic boys: Vilhelms, Lukas and Samuel. In the winter he can often be found looking for fresh snow or auguring holes in some frozen pond. He is thrilled to be part of the Winter Carnival Court and wishes everybody a happy and safe Winter Carnival.
