LAKE PLACID - Vera Bessie Marrs, 91, of Lake Placid, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the Uihlein Living Center in Lake Placid.

Mrs. Marrs was born March 18, 1921, in Lake Placid. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and the late Mazie (Patterson) Barney. She was the wife of Frank Marrs. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Marrs, on Sept. 20, 1996.

Mrs. Marrs was a former member of the Lake Placid American Legion Women's Auxiliary and the VFW. She loved caring for children and babysat for many families in the Lake Placid area. She also enjoyed reading, especially Danielle Steel books, listening to classic country music, and the affection of her cats.

She is survived by one brother, Wayne Barney and his wife Victoria of Lake Placid; one stepson, Philip Marrs and his wife Nancy of Upper Jay; one granddaughter, Jennifer Pulsifer and her husband John of Upper Jay; two great-grandchildren: Marisa and John III; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at M.B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Adirondack Community Church, 2583 Main St., Lake Placid, with the Rev. John Martin and the Rev. Ingrid Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in North Elba Cemetery, Lake Placid.
