Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour returns for 14th year

LAKE PLACID - Hot on the heels of the largest and most prestigious mountain film festival in the world, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will return here for its 14th year at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.

This year's selection of 10 films showcases more than two hours of magnificent cinematography telling powerful stories that reflect a wide range of mountain experiences and portraits from mountain sports, culture and mountain environment to adventure. Some highlights of films that will be previewed:

"Crossing the Ice (42)" awarded Grand Prize and also Best Adventure Film. The plot: Two Australian adventurers dare to tackle the perilous journey across Antarctica to the South Pole and back again, completely unassisted.

In "Gimp Monkeys (8 feet)," three friends attempt the first all-disabled ascent of Yosemite's iconic El Capitan. "Reel Rock 7: Honnold 3.0," awarded Best film on Climbing, follows Alex Honnold, known as the boldest soloist of his generation, but how does he balance pure ambition with self-preservation?

Selected from 420 entries from more than 20 countries, this year's tour features a collection of the most inspiring and thought-provoking action, environmental, and adventure mountain films with stops in 390 locations in all seven continents .

Tickets are available at High Peaks Cyclery and at Lake Placid Center for the Arts.
