To the editor:
I am writing this article because I think a lot of other people want to talk on the subject but are afraid of speaking their opinion. So here goes.
I have been a member of this community for the majority of my life. I have seen businesses come and go. The thing that tickled me as odd and funny is how a merry-go-round in the middle of our kids' park was going to help the community. Most locals I know only have brought their kids there a couple of times. Was this really a key to bring tourists into Saranac Lake? Of course it was. That way money could be spread around from the tourists of Lake Placid. I mean, when the train comes to town, that is when the carousel is mostly used. Our local people such as myself who have more than one kid rarely ever use it. I mean, $2 a ride per kid for two minutes of entertainment seems a bit ridiculous, if you ask me. Especially since most jobs in our community pay no higher than $10 an hour. The park was basically ruined for a merry-go-round that is often never used by our own children.
When are we going to do things for our own kids in our community? How about the other park in town? Revamp it, and make it a place where kids want to go again.
I'm not saying my kids didn't enjoy the carousel, because they did. But after being on it once or twice, they could care less to ever be on it again. Isn't it about time we care about our children and give them something they will always want to do, a place where they can run around with their friends and be kids? How about a REAL PARK?
