Ed Kanze presents ‘Kangaroo Dreaming’ at Will Rogers

January 10, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC LAKE - Ed Kanze, naturalist, author, photographer and Adirondack guide will host a slide show presentation at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Saranac Village at Will Rogers.

His talk will tell the story of a nine-month, 25,000- mile journey Ed and his wife Debbie made around Australia in 1996. The trip is described in Ed's book, "Kangaroo Dreaming: An Australian Wildlife Odyssey," jointly published in 2000 by Random House and Sierra Club Books.

A resident of Bloomingdale, Kanze is the winner of the 2004 John Burroughs Essay Award, a prize awarded annually at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. He is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont. Kanze has also written "Wild Life: The Remarkable Lives of Ordinary Animals," "Notes from New Zealand," "The World of John Burroughs," and "Over the Mountain and Home Again: Journeys of an Adirondack Naturalist." He recently completed a novel about the explorer Henry Hudson's last days and is now at work on a nonfiction book combining stories of his own Adirondack life with tales of his maternal ancestors, who were among the Adirondack region's first permanent settlers.
