OSWEGO - The Saranac Lake girls hockey team made a long journey well worth the ride by claiming a 2-1 overtime victory Saturday against host Oswego.
The Red Storm notched the final two goals of the contest to claim the win. After a scoreless first period, Whitney Daino gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the second. Jillian Martin answered with the equalizer for Saranac Lake in the same stanza.
The teams played scoreless hockey again in the third period, before Maggie Darrah then sent home the winning goal for Saranac Lake in overtime with Bridget Sullivan assisting.
Saranac Lake outshot Oswego 30-25. Sierra Nye made 24 saves to earn the win in goal for the Red Storm and Maddie Whelan stopped 28 shots for Oswego. McKayla Martin chipped in an assist for Saranac Lake, which won for the second time this season.
