PERU - State police in Plattsburgh are investigating the death of a Chazy man whose body was found near the railroad tracks in Peru over the weekend.

State police said in a press release that 39-year-old Charles W. Hill's body was located near the Canadian Pacific train tracks just south of Bear Swamp Road at about noon Saturday. A passerby observed a body floating in a marsh on the west side of the tracks, police said.

Members of the State Police Dive Team and Forensic Identification Unit recovered the body in about 3 feet of water, according to the release.

Police said Hill has been the subject of an active missing-person investigation. He was reported missing by his girlfriend on Oct. 19.

"There was no apparent sign of foul play, and the investigation is continuing," police said in a press release.

Clinton County Coroner David F. Donah authorized removal of Hill's body, and he was taken to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Police said they will release more information as it becomes available.
