Rise to challenge for Dewey lodge

December 17, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

Many local households recently received a letter announcing a very special opportunity: the Henry II and Mildred A. Uihlein Foundation is offering a $25,000 challenge matching grant to help Dewey Mountain Friends and the Saranac Lake Rotary Foundation build a new lodge and improve trails at Dewey Mountain Recreation Center.

For every $2 members of the community donate this winter, the foundation will donate $1. We must raise $50,000 to receive the full $25,000 match. This is a wonderful but limited chance to extend your generosity by 50 percent.

We are grateful to the Uihlein Foundation for its generous challenge, and we are grateful to everyone who has contributed to Dewey Mountain in so many ways, from clearing trails to coaching kids. Volunteers and community support have always been the foundation of Dewey's success and its potential to attract even more people to mountain sports.

If you would like to consider a gift or learn more about this project, please see deweymountain.com, or send donations and questions c/o Saranac Lake Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 645, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.

Thank you.
