Chiefs surge past Saranac Lake

PLATTSBURGH - The Saranac boys basketball team used a 17-7 third quarter to take control of a 43-36 victory over Saranac Lake on Saturday at SUNY Plattsburgh.

"It was a hard fought game, could've gone either way," said Red Storm coach Dermott Morgan.

Saranac Lake senior Kellen Munn led all scorers with 17 points, while fellow senior Kevin Morgan chipped in seven.

The Chiefs (1-0) went into the locker room at halftime with a five-point lead, then surged in the third quarter. Saranac Lake controlled the fourth quarter but was unable to overtake the lead before the final buzzer.

John Maye led Saranac offensively with 11 points, while Connor Christopherson had nine.

It was the first game of the season for the Red Storm, who travel to Peru on Tuesday. The game was part of the Coaches vs. Cancer CVAC Challenge.


Tupper Lake 63, Hermon-DeKalb 54

DEKALB JUNCTION - Brock Tarbox scored 29 points and Anson Gagnier had 20 to lead the Tupper Lake boys basketball team to a 63-54 victory on Saturday.

The Lumberjacks improved to 3-1 on the season with the non-league win.

Macaulay Snell hit for 27 points and Dylan Kimble scored 12 to lead the Demons (1-2).



Saranac 44, Saranac Lake 24

PLATTSBURGH - The Saranac girls basketball team kept Saranac Lake under 10 points in every quarter on the way to a 44-24 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory on Saturday.

The Chiefs led 19-13 at halftime, then extended the margin to 30-19 by the end of the third.

Victoria Phaneuf scored 10 points, Kaitlyn Brown had nine and Kayla Napper hit for seven to lead Saranac.

Nicole Viscardo was Saranac Lake's top scorer with nine points. Megan Kilroy chipped in five.


AuSable Valley 69, Lake Placid 11

PLATTSBURGH - The AuSable Valley girls basketball team left no doubt Saturday after a 69-11 victory over Lake Placid.

AuSable Valley's Taylor Saltus led all scorers with 23 points, nine of which came on 3-pointers. She also contribued 12 rebounds and nine assists.

Hanna Potter scored four points to lead the Blue Bombers (0-2).



Beekmantown 8, Saranac Lake 0

CHAZY - The Beekmantown girls hockey team had two players record hat tricks on the way to an 8-0 victory over Saranac Lake on Friday.

Emily Raville and Katie Matott each scored three goals and Amanda Peterson scored twice to lead the Eagles (3-0).

Katie Snyder racked up 22 saves and Sierra Nye had seven in goal for Saranac Lake, which was outshot 37-18.
