Festive holiday experiences this weekend in Saranac Lake

SARANAC LAKE - The weekend will find this village bustling with art activities in addition to the events planned for Home for the Holidays.

Home for the Holidays

Home for the Holidays will host a marshmallow roast Friday from 4 to 6 p.m., a community sing-along with high school carolers, and at 5 p.m. the official tree lighting in Berkeley Square with Mayor Clyde Rabideau.

Sparkle Village craft fair

The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce presents the annual Sparkle Village Arts and Crafts show and sale Friday and Saturday at the Harrietstown Town Hall, 39 Main St.

Forty vendors will be featured offering hand-crafted jewelry, art, gifts, holiday ornaments, packaged food items and more. Several organizations will hold raffles, and the chamber will hold a silent auction featuring Cape Air tickets, a Lakeview Deli lobster feast, Nonna Fina gift certificates, Upstate Auto car detailing, an Adirondack Motel pontoon boat cruise, a Gauthier's Motor Inn lodging package, an original painting by Sandra Hildreth and a gift certificate from Coakley Ace Hardware.

The hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is $2, which is good for both days.

Holiday Art Stroll

The first Holiday Art Stroll has been organized by Saranac Lake ArtWorks. Like the Third Thursday ArtWalks in the summer, the public is invited to stroll the village's festive, holiday-decorated streets and visit various art venues for special exhibits, demonstrations, opportunities to meet the artists, live music and holiday refreshments.

The Adirondack Carousel will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday - and it's reported that Santa will stop in for a ride.

The Adirondack Artists' Guild at 52 Main St. will be open until 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with regular hours Sunday: 11 a.m to 3 p.m. The featured artist of the month is Diane Leifheit, whose exhibit of pastels, "In the Raw," will be on display. The works of the other 13 members of the guild will also be on display, and there will be free refreshments.

Up above the Artists' Guild, Matt Paul and Maria DeAngelo will have their studio open with work on display and refreshments available.

Mark Kurtz Photography, also above the Artists' Guild, will be open until 8 p.m. Friday, until 6 Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday with "hot, steaming holiday refreshments."

Sandra Hildreth, a painter of Adirondack landscapes, will have an open house at her home studio/gallery at 182 Lake St. on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Enchanted Christmas on Helen Hill will continue, with various artists' studios open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Helen Hill neighborhood of Saranac Lake. For more information, call 518-891-0182.

Over at 36 Broadway, there will be live music at the Left Bank Cafe, where the Rustic Riders will performing Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The NorthWind Fine Arts gallery is hosting a Holiday Reception on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. New small works by all 10 gallery members will be on display as well as handmade ornaments. Refreshments will be available, and the gallery will be open throughout the weekend.

At Piece by Piece studio, Beth Gallagher will be open until 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and will conduct demonstrations on how to make fabric and wool ornaments.
