SARANAC LAKE - A water main break near Adirondack Bank on Church Street is why a section of the street was shut down this afternoon.

The cause of the break hadn't been determined as of about 3:15 p.m., according to village Manager John Sweeney. It happened near the intersection of Church and Woodruff streets.

"There will be some rerouting of traffic at this time to facilitate repairs," Sweeney said.

Village Department of Public Works crews were digging up a section of Church Street at about 3:30 today. Sweeney said the village will keep water users updated about the break.

Church Street is currently closed from Woodruff Street to Bloomingdale Avenue, although motorists can access Rite-Aid, Grand Union, First Niagara Bank and Twin D Automotive. Village police Chief Bruce Nason said motorists can use Broadway or Pine Street as a detour until repairs are completed.
