AuSABLE FORKS - This community will host a full slate of family-friendly events next weekend to kick off the holiday season.

The eighth annual Christmas in the Forks celebration kicks off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, with a story hour with Mrs. Claus at the AuSable Forks Free Library. The event will culminate with the lighting of the Christmas tree at 6 p.m. at the Town of Black Brook Clock Park.

"Many hands help to make Christmas in the Forks glorious each year," reads a press release issued by the town of Jay. "This year, we want to thank Matt and Shannon Stanley of Santa's Workshop of Wilmington for helping to spread the Christmas cheer. We are so thrilled that Santa's friends from the North Pole will join our Holiday Party this year."

Prior to the tree lighting, at 5:30 p.m., visitors from Santa's Workshop, including the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, Snoopy, Frosty Forks, Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as two very "special guests," will help light the tree. The Adirondack Mountain Singers are also scheduled to perform.

"For me, this is one event I don't want to miss," Jay town Supervisor Randy Douglas, who will be master of ceremonies at the tree lighting, said in the release. "The annual tree lighting is more than just a celebration; it reminds us that we must all work together to do great things. To our parishes, to our businesses, and to residents young and old, may the spirit of Christmas be with you all year long."

This year's Christmas Tree will be donated by Robbie and Renee Baer of Jay. The event is organized by the Christmas Tree Committee and attracts crowds of about 400 people every year, according to the press release.

Following story hour at the library, musicians are invited to a Christmas in Song Open House at St. James Episcopal Church at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m., the AuSable Forks Fire Department will sponsor a free holiday movie, complete with popcorn and candy canes for children, at the Hollywood Theatre on Main Street. Another showing will take place after the tree lighting at 7 p.m.

Also at 7 p.m., Santa, Mrs. Claus and friends will host a meet-and-greet at the Town of Jay Community Center on School Lane, sponsored by the AuSable Forks Revitalization and Beautification Committees.

On Sunday, from 8 to 11 a.m., the community is invited to a Breakfast with Santa at the AuSable Forks Fire Department.

Officials thanked AuSable Forks downtown merchants, the AuSable Forks Fire Department, the AuSable Forks Free Library, Plattsburgh's Media Central, Placid Productions, the Clock Project Committee, the towns of Jay and Black Brook employees, the AuSable Forks Revitalization and Beautification Committees, the Hollywood Theatre, the Clinton and Essex County sheriff's departments and the Tree Lighting Committee, which is chaired by Helen Wirt-Kennedy, for helping to make the annual Christmas celebration possible.
