SARANAC LAKE - A local man is facing criminal charges stemming from three separate incidents over the past month-and-a-half.

Village police charged Brent M. Rabideau, 23, of Saranac Lake, with three counts of third-degree attempted assault and single counts of endangering the welfare of a child, petit larceny and falsifying business records.

Police said Rabideau stole money on Sept. 20 from the Sears store, where he used to work. He falsified business records in an attempt to conceal the crime, police said.

On Oct. 16, police said Rabideau was involved in a physical altercation on Leona Street, where he and another Saranac Lake man, 45-year-old James J. Gibson, allegedly attempted to injure an 18-year-old male.

Rabideau was also involved in a physical altercation on Oct. 31 that resulted in unspecified injuries to a 14-year-old girl, police said.

Rabideau was arrested at 10 a.m. Tuesday, arraigned in village court and remanded to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond.

Gibson was arrested at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and charged with a single count of third-degree attempted assault. He was processed, arraigned in village court and released to appear again at a later date.
