Help musicians help food pantries

November 5, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

This may seem a bit far in advance, but we need help now. For the past few years, a bunch of local musicians have united to raise money for our local food pantries. We've played a series of free concerts that have, with the help of the whole community, raised more than $7,000 dollars and truckloads of food donations.

Everyone who has performed has done it for free, and there have been lots of other volunteers and contributors who have made these events possible and a success.

In order to use the Harrietstown Town Hall, we are required each year to provide insurance coverage and deposits on the room and the sound equipment. Local businesses and individuals have generously helped us out with sponsorship money for the deposits, and when the concerts have finished, all of the money has gone directly to the food pantries. For the past couple of years, the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has covered us with its insurance, enabling us to perform.

This year, due to a substantial cutback in funding by the village of Saranac Lake, the chamber is no longer able to afford insurance that can cover these types of events. We need to have the liability insurance in place in order to reserve the hall.

This winter's concert is planned for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013. In order to pull this off, we need to raise about $1,500 in advance to cover the deposits and purchase insurance. So we are asking the community, businesses and individuals to help us out. Again this year, Daun Reuter will be handling the finances and administration for the event. We will accept, and the food pantries will give receipts for all donations. Any sponsorship of $25 will be noted on the printed program. I will be going through the area to businesses, personally asking for donations to help us put this on. We will also be glad to accept gift certificates for raffles and door prizes. For further information about how you can help get this year's fundraising concert off the ground, please contact Keith Gorgas at 518-637-9205 or via email, kipgorgas@yahoo.com.

More information regarding the concert and lineup will be forthcoming as the date gets closer. We are looking forward to seeing you at the show.

Sincerely

Keith Gorgas
