Red Storm volleyball falls in semifinals

PLATTSBURGH - The Saranac Lake volleyball season came to an end Wednesday with a 3-1 loss to Plattsburgh in the Section VII, Class C semifinals.

The Hornets won the first game 25-15 and the second 25-14, before the Red Storm rallied for a 26-24 win in the third game. Plattsburgh was able to put the match away with a 25-17 victory in the fourth game.

With the win, the Hornets advance to Saturday's sectional championship match where they will face AuSable Valley, a 3-1 winner over Saranac in Wednesday's other semifinal.

Kylie Sapone led the way for Saranac Lake on Wednesday with 11 assists, five aces and two digs. Nicole Viscardo put down eight kills to go along with two digs, while Brittany Woodruff had three aces and one dig and Shannon Stevens had three kills, six digs and one block. Sam Martin contributed to the Red Storm cause with six digs.

Kadijah Brown paced Plattsburgh with 13 kills and 10 service points and Kianna Dragoon collected 29 assists.

Saranac Lake finished the season with a 5-13 overall record. Plattsburgh is 13-4.
