To the editor:
As a North Country small businessperson, I want to publicly thank Congressman Bill Owens for sponsoring a bill that was recently passed that makes it possible for local small businesses like ours to raise financing from local investors.
The legislation - the JOBS Act of 2012 - was sponsored by Congressman Owens, who took time from a busy schedule to meet with a group of us this spring. He shared his extensive experience putting financing packages together for small businesses and outlined how the JOBS Act could be an important new tool for us to grow and create businesses and jobs in our community.
It is up to us now. We - local businesses, local investors, local bankers and local economic developers - can turn this new opportunity into a reality. It can be a win-win-win for our communities to grow existing and new small businesses, to retain and create jobs, and to offer investors a way to invest locally.

Thank you, Congressman Owens, for your leadership and commitment in giving us this opportunity to grow small businesses and jobs in our communities in northern New York.
