VIS thanks businesses and contributors

October 22, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

The Village Improvement Society of Saranac Lake extends many thanks to the businesses, their patrons and the Aktion Club that supported the hanging flower baskets that beautified the village streets this summer. This was the first year that VIS placed "VIS Donation Jars" throughout the village to help offset costs. Whether it was 1 cent or $1, the contributions added up. With your help, we raised $583.62!

Members of the Aktion Club, which is a Kiwanis-sponsored group, provided the legwork in collecting the donations. The group considered it a worthwhile community volunteer project for the summer. Several of the Aktion Club members also are active VIS members including Jason Borden, Ricky Sullivan, Don Moore, Josh Ryan, Brandon Berg and Lola Vanderwalker.

Participating businesses included Wilson Farms, Saranac Lake Discount Liquors, Rice Furniture, Blue Moon Cafe, Post Office Pharmacy, Sears, Fusion Market, E&M Market, Sharper Image, J.C. Penney, Adirondack Trading Company, Major Plowshares Army Navy, Two Horse Trade Company, Goody Goody's, Borracho Taco, Pink, Another's Treasure, Bling, Liz Company, Ampersound, the Community Store, Eco Living and Dunkin' Donuts. Hyde Fuel generously donated $50, and Compass Printing Plus donated the printing of the labels for the jars.

Thanks to the generosity of businesses, residents, visitors and volunteers, VIS helps to keep Saranac Lake blooming!
