NCCC hosts MVAC cross country championships

LAKE PLACID - Josh Cook finished fifth and Llaney Hernandez was eighth to lead the North Country Community College cross country team Saturday in the Mountain and Valley Conference Championship race at Craig Wood Golf Course.

As a team, the Saints took fourth place, trailing first-place SUNY Delhi (40 points), Mohawk Valley (59) and Hudson Valley (63). North Country recorded 73 team points.

Tom Arcuri of Mohawk Valley won the 8 kilometer men's race in 23:04.2. Cook crossed the line in 23:26.1 and Hernandez finished in 24:01.4.

Other North Country finishers were Jeremy Jones (15th, 25:06.9), Jordan Haviland (21st, 26:29.4), Zach Peltier (24th, 29:16.5) and Chris Elliott (29th, 39:48).

Mohawk Valley captured the women's title with 25 points, beating runner-up SUNY Delhi which had 47 team points. Herkimer was third with 61 points.

Heather Vroman of Herkimer won the women's 5 kilometer race in 21:06.4.

Kaylan Short was North Country's top runner with a time of 26:41.5, which was good for 16th place. Clarissa Mango finished 20th with a time of 28:05.5 and Brittney Clay was 21st in 29:25.7.
