TUPPER LAKE - The village board appointed Shawn Stuart to the planning board at its Monday night meeting.
He will take the seat of Bob Fuller, who stepped down to avoid a potential conflict of interest with the Adirondack Club and Resort project, since he was the village's water and wastewater superintendent when the project was proposed and has worked on the project on a consultant basis since his 2010 retirement from the village.
Village Clerk Mary Casagrain said Joe LaLonde was also interested in the position, but the board chose Stuart during an executive session.

Mayor Paul Maroun recommended Stuart at a September village board meeting, but gave trustees a month to think about it before asking them to act on it. Maroun was not in the executive session after the regular meeting this Monday when the appointment was decided, but he attended one before the regular meeting.
Stuart, who runs a funeral home, was a town councilman until he decided not to run again in 2011.
The village appoints three planning board members while the town board appoints four.
