To the editor:
I have known Bill Owens for nearly 30 years, and if we really want a proven job creator and a person who can reach across the aisle to get things done, Bill Owens is clearly the choice for Congress on Election Day.
Bill was a highly respected North Country lawyer - a formidable negotiator when sitting on the opposite side of the bargaining table and a staunch and learned ally sitting on the same side. Bill traveled to Montreal and other parts of Quebec with me to help nail down the Bombardier rail car manufacturing deal that jump-started the rebirth of Plattsburgh Air Force Base after its closure. And he didn't stop there as we plied the Canadian market many times thereafter to bring more jobs to the North Country. Bill also helped coach Little League baseball. Our kids played on the same team, and so I also know Bill as a top-shelf dad, a family man who wants opportunity for all of our kids.
Bill Owens is a doer and has a track record of bipartisan coalition building, a rare but still valuable trait in Washington these days. But that's how Bill gets things done for the North Country, and that's the measure that makes all the difference - and is the biggest reason to vote Bill Owens on Nov. 6.
