LAKE PLACID - Firefighters prevented the spread of a small fire that started Friday afternoon at a house at 15 Planty Way.

Volunteers said a lamp tipped over onto some boxes in an attic area, and the boxes and a nearby door caught fire.

The blaze was still going by the time firefighters got there at 4:03 p.m., so they used a little water to extinguish it. Volunteers said there was very little damage from the flames, plus some smoke and water damage. They were back in service at 5:24 p.m.

Firefighters said it was a good thing people were home at the time and reported the fire so it could be put out right away.
