SARANAC LAKE - St. Bernard's School hosted a picnic for families and students on Tuesday, Sept. 4, the last day of summer vacation.
Families were able to visit classrooms, meet teachers and enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers cooked by Principal Ray Dora and Mark Gillis, parent of a first-grader. It was also a potluck dinner, and families brought a variety of food.
The Catholic parochial school has 51 students this year, up from 46 last year.

There are two new teachers this year: Emily Doyle (first grade) and D.J. Racette (fifth), both graduates of St. Bernard's and Saranac Lake High School. Currently, each of St. Bernard's six full-time teachers - except Cathy Nason, who has been there almost 40 years - and its principal are alumni of the school.
