Open house at firehouse

SARANAC LAKE - In celebration of National Fire Prevention Week, the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department will host an open house Saturday at the village firehouse on Broadway.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It includes displays of the department's fire and rescue trucks, including its new ladder truck. The fire department's ATV and Rescue Boggan, a new underwater camera, ice rescue suits and other equipment will also be on display.

Fire prevention literature and information will be available, along with historical information and slideshows.

Kids who attend can watch a fire prevention video and get a free coloring book.

A 9-volt battery giveaway will take place, as the department encourages homeowners to change their smoke alarm battery.
