Northeastern Clinton 3, Saranac Lake 1
SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake girls soccer team struck first, but Northeastern Clinton recovered to keep its unbeaten record intact Friday with a 3-1 victory over the Red Storm.
Sheila Decker scored the game's first goal in the 13th minute after Megan Moody sent an indirect kick into her direction.
The Cougars answered six minutes later when Mallory Honan connected on a direct kick to tie the game at 1-1. Celine Bouvier extended the NCCS lead to 2-1 just before halftime with another successful direct kick.
Northeastern Clinton tallied the final goal of the game 17 minutes into the second half when Katie Matott scored on a pass from Molly Roush.
"All in all, this was one of the best games we've played all season," said Saranac Lake coach Amanda Zullo. "Our defense found the line between smart and aggressive. Our offense continually sought to set up opportunities. The girls played with a ton of heart.
"NCCS is undefeated for a reason."
