LAKE PLACID - Old Military Road will remain closed to traffic until the end of the day Oct. 19, according to Essex County Highway Superintendent Tony LaVigne.
The road has been closed since mid-August as crews reconstruct and rebuild the road. Traffic is being detoured through the village on Saranac Avenue and Wesvalley Road.
"The detour is being extended to optimize the remaining construction season before winter conditions set in," LaVigne wrote in an email. "Old Military Road will then be opened to traffic but still subject to lane closures and delays."
Rifenburg Construction Inc. of Troy is the contractor on the project and the county is overseeing the work. Crews are also replacing the bridge over the Chubb River and realigning Riki Hill near the Lake Placid firehouse.
