BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE - The Adirondack Museum has received nearly $120,000 in grants to support its operation, programs and planning efforts, Executive Director David M. Kahn announced recently.
The Adirondack Museum has been awarded two grants from the F.M Kirby Foundation in the amount of $27,500 and 20,000 respectively for general operating support, and for the Exhibition Master Plan process.
In 2012, working with a team of nationally prominent consultants, the Adirondack Museum will develop its first museum-wide Exhibition Master Plan. The goal for this plan is to make the visitor experience at the museum even more compelling and exciting.
Updating some existing long-term exhibits with new information and perspectives, introducing additional long-term exhibits on issues of current concern, and identifying topics for dynamic changing exhibits will position the museum to better serve both current and future visitors.

The Prospect Hill Foundation's gift of $15,000 will also be used toward the Exhibition Master Plan process.
The mission of the Prospect Hill Foundation is to advance the human experience while ensuring the well-being of Earth. The foundation makes grants in four program areas: environment, nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation, reproductive health and justice and criminal justice. The J.M. McDonald Foundation's gift of $10,000 will be used to toward the Exhibition Master Plan as well. The foundation was founded in 1952 with the trust income to be used as donations to deserving charities.

The Gerry Foundation has also awarded the museum $10,000 toward the Exhibition Master Plan. The Gerry Foundation primarily gives to arts organizations, museums, as well as to community development and human services.
The Peck Stacpoole Foundation's gift of $10,000 will be used for the Exhibition Master Plan. The Peck Stacpoole Foundation provides general operating support in New York state for arts, historical activities, historic preservation, libraries and museums.
The Peckham Family Foundation gift of $1,000 will also be used for the Exhibition Master Plan. The Foundation focuses its charitable efforts on programs designed to enhance the quality of life in the community including educational, arts and civic organizations. The Leo Cox Beach Philanthropic Foundation has awarded the museum $11,000 toward a project to provide online access to the library's catalog. The museum's library houses, preserves, and makes accessible to the public an unparalleled collection of books, manuscripts, maps, and ephemera that documents Adirondack history.
Currently, Machine Readable Cataloging records exist for about one-third of the library's cataloged materials, making those 4,205 records available online. The museum now plans to create digital records for approximately 8,000 additional items, to make the entire collection accessible to researchers worldwide.
The Leo Cox Beach Foundation is a private family foundation that provides a web of support to local institutions - cultural, medical and educational - that enrich and enhance life in the Glens Falls area.

The International Paper Foundation's grant of $3,500 will be used to cover the costs of a new brochure marketing the Adirondack Museum's educational programs for schools. The International Paper Foundation supports non-profit organizations in the communities where our employees live and work.

The John Ben Snow Memorial Trust has awarded the museum $10,000 to be used toward the museum's new audio tour. The mission of the trust is to make grants within specific focus areas to enhance the quality of life in many geographic areas.
