SARANAC LAKE - The Friends of Tom Catillaz have produced a short music video to highlight the Harrietstown supervisor candidate's plan to grow the town-owned Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear.

The three-and-a-half minute video features Catillaz and a group of about 25 supporters singing a re-worded cover of the John Denver-written song "Leaving on a Jet Plane," most famously recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary in 1969.

"Harrietstown Needs More Jet Planes" was filmed outside Saranac Lake village Mayor Clyde Rabideau's house overlooking Lake Colby during a campaign fundraising party and barbecue on Saturday, Catillaz told the Enterprise.

"Clyde came up with that idea," Catillaz said Wednesday. "It's a fun little jingle to get a message across about the airport. It just fell into place."

The video opens with guitarist Joe Dockery sitting on a folding chair next to Rabideau's house with the lake and fall foliage in the background. As Dockery sings, one by one, kids and adults (including village Trustees Paul Van Cott, Barbara Rice and other local Democrats) walk in behind him, swaying to the music. When Dockery hits the chorus, they all join together and sing:

"So kiss him and vote for him, tell him that you'll stump for him, hold him like you'll never let him go," the group sings. "Cause Harrietstown wants more jet planes; we know they'll be in the black again. Oh, the airport's gotta grow."

Catillaz walks in at the front of the group about two-and-a-half minutes into the song and joins in the chorus.

"Vote for me, and watch the airport grow," he says at the end of the video, which has been posted on YouTube and the Friends of Tom Catillaz Facebook page.

The airport has proven to be one of the biggest issues of the campaign between Catillaz, a Democrat and a current village trustee, and Republican town Councilman Bob Bevilacqua.

"We can't have big deficits out there," Catillaz said. "The things gotta run in the black, and I think it can."

Catillaz has called for implementing fees for long-term parking at the airport, cutting the cost of fuel to try and boost business and leasing land to tenants who want to build hangars at the facility.

Bevilacqua has said he'd reduce expenses at the airport by continuing cost-cutting measures implemented by the airport's management. He also wants to work with other communities around the region on a plan to share the airport's management and costs; develop an airport marketing plan; expand fuel sales and services to general aviation customers; work with airport management to allow additional flexibility in fuel pricing, including price-matching and volume discounts; and ask Franklin County to make airport fuel sales exempt from sales tax.
