Blue Bombers girls soccer wins another

LAKE PLACID - Payton Barney scored the game-winning goal midway through the second half Thursday to lead the Lake Placid girls soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Ticonderoga.

Freshman Liza Marinis scored the first goal of the game in the seventh minute of the first half to give the Blue Bombers an early 1-0 advantage. Barney assisted on the goal.

Ticonderoga's Andrea Rich tied the game in the eighth minute of the second half with an unassisted tally.

Barney's game-winner came after a pass from Kendra Manning.

Lake Placid held a 14-8 advantage in shots. Liz Leff stopped seven shots for the Blue Bombers, while Megan Campney was credited with 12 stops.


AuSable Valley 3, Saranac Lake 1, OT

CLINTONVILLE - The Saranac Lake girls soccer team led much of the way, but AuSable Valley tied the game late and went on to score two more in overtime for the 3-1 Northern Soccer League victory.

Saranac Lake sophomore Katey Snyder broke through for the first goal of the game in the 21st minute on a pass from Vanessa Salamy. The Red Storm were able to maintain the edge with the help of strong play in goal by Katie Buckley.

The Patriots tied the game with just under nine minutes left in regulation when Megan Strong converted on a pass from Haley Taylor. It was all AuSable Valley in the overtime period as Taylor and Taylor Saltus each scored goals to set the final score at 3-1.

Buckley made 20 saves in goal for Saranac Lake. The Patriots outshot the Red Storm 30-15.


Madrid-Waddington 2, Tupper Lake 1, OT

MADRID - After 80 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Tupper Lake and Madrid-Waddington girls' teams exploded for three overtime goals in the semifinal round of the Dan Rose Tournament.

Madrid-Waddington struck first in overtime with a goal by Katie Marcellus. The Lumberjacks answered when Ryan O'Connor took a pass from Lauren Bouck to tie the game at 1-1.

Emily Doegler scored the game-winning goal with two minutes remaining to give Madrid-Waddington a 2-1 victory and a spot in Saturday's championship game against Lisbon. Tupper Lake will face Edwards-Knox in the consolation game at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Lumberjacks fell to 1-2 with the loss, while Madrid-Waddington improved to 2-3.
