SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake boys soccer team scored four unanswered goals in the final 25 minutes Wednesday to secure a 5-1 victory over AuSable Valley.
After the Patriots tied the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 12th minute of the second half, the Red Storm started to roll. David Cluckey took a pass from Blake Gregory at the 14:33 mark and Quinn Urquhart tallied a minute later on a feed from Devin Cowan.
Blake Battistoni scored another 18:28 into the second half and Nick Bayruns rounded out the scoring at the 31:46 mark on a pass from Brad Shumway.
"If we play this aggressive the rest of the way, we will compete with any team," said Saranac Lake coach Bill Wilson. "Our strikers took advantage of some bobbled play in front of their net to take control of the game."
Cowan, who finished with a goal and two assists, scored the game's first goal 27:23 into the first half on a feed from Shumway.
Prescott Doyle netted AuSable Valley's lone goal 12:13 into the second.
Oliver Holmes stopped 14 shots in goal for the Red Storm, while Joshua Taylor recorded five saves for the Patriots. AuSable Valley held a 20-15 shooting advantage.
Lake Placid 5, Westport 0
WESTPORT - The Lake Placid boys soccer team scored twice in the first half and piled on three more in the second Wednesday on the way to a 5-0 victory over Westport.
Kyle Shipman opened the scoring 14:49 into the first half on a pass from Hunter Wilson, then Wilson made it 2-0 seven minutes later taking a pass from Ryan Meyer.
Tyler Willis, Dylan Aldridge and Haile Thompson each scored second half goals for the Blue Bombers to put the game out of reach. Thompson finished with a goal and an assist.
Lake Placid outshot Westport 16-7 in the game, with Chris Kordziel stopping three shots in goal for the Blue Bombers (3-2).

LAKE PLACID - Lake Placid sophomore Nina Armstrong placed first and her sister Gabby Armstrong was third in the girls cross country race Wednesday at Mount Van Hoevenberg.
Nina Armstrong covered the course in 22:20 to outpace second-place finisher Elena Beideck of Saranac Lake who crossed the line in 22:37. Gabby Armstrong was next in 23:13, followed by Ticonderoga's Naomi Forkas in 24:15.
Saranac Lake runners occupied the next five spots to earn two wins in the team scoring. Johanna Mohrs (24:55) was fifth, followed by teammates Jackie Garso (25:14), Grace Sullivan (25:36), Jacinda Riggs (25:48) and Remy Orticelle (26:06).
In the boys' race, Javeed Nazir of Ticonderoga was the top runner with his time of 18:32, followed by teammate Tyler Beldon in 19:04. Lake Placid freshman Karl Schultz was third in 19:07, while teammate Corey Detwiler was fourth in 19:29.
Saranac Lake sophomore Zane Pelletieri placed fifth in 19:30.
The Ticonderoga boys swept the team scoring and Lake Placid defeated Saranac Lake 25-31.
The meet was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
Massena 3, Tupper Lake 1
MASSENA - The Tupper Lake volleyball team won the first game, but wasn't able to hold on Wednesday as Massena rallied for a 23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-15 win.
The Lumberjacks fell to 0-4 with the loss, while Massena improved to 5-0.
