KEENE (AP) - Authorities say a man has been rescued from near the summit of New York's highest mountain after he experienced medical problems during a hike.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation tells WPTZ-TV in Plattsburgh that a state police helicopter flew to Mount Marcy Sunday morning and rescued the man.
Officials say he was a few hundred feet from the top of the mountain on Saturday when he started having chest pains and could no longer walk. High winds delayed the rescue effort until Sunday.
Forest rangers and a physician's assistant spent Saturday night with the man and stabilized him before the helicopter arrived. The unidentified man was hospitalized.
Mount Marcy, located in the town of Keene, is more than 5,300 feet high.
