Walter Hubbell Wells

ROCHESTER - Walter Hubbell Wells, 89, died Sept. 13, 2012, in Rochester.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Anne "Onnie" Sage Wells, and brothers Lyndon and Donald Wells.

He is survived by his children: Kitt (Dan) Goodwin, Tony (Betsy) Wells, Lynda (Jim) Robeson and Jim (Maggie) Wells; grandchildren: Deidre (Bill) Carovano, Robert (Dace) Goodwin, Christopher Wells, Douglas (Wendi) Wells, Kimball Robeson, Geoffrey (Lauren) Robeson, Stefanie (Ian) Misner and Andrew (Sheena) Wells; great-grandchildren: Zoe and Nate Carovano, Hagen and Parker Wells, Ansis Robs, Elizabeth Goodwin and Penelope Misner; sisters-in-law Mari Wells of Pittsford and Mary Jean Wells of Kansas; longtime friend Ello Dennis; and many friends at Cloverwood.

Walter was a graduate of Deerfield Academy (1941), attended Princeton and graduated from Cornell with an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. He received an MBA from Harvard. He was first in Midshipmen's Class in Davisville, R.I., where he presented his class to the captain. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy 50th and 109th Construction Battalions on Tinian, Guam and Saipan, building runways and camps. He attained the rank of lieutenant junior grade.

Onnie and Walt were married in 1945. He worked at Kodak from the late 1940s to the late 1950s. From then until his retirement in 2000, he owned Ontario Machine Co. on Exchange Street in Rochester and Bo-Mer Plastics in Auburn. Walt was a private pilot and a proud member of the QBs for more than 40 years.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Anthony Funeral Chapel, 2305 Monroe Ave. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church, 1200 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14618. Interment will be in July at the Church of the Ascension. Contributions in his memory may be made to Walter Hubbell Employment Services Fund, c/o Heritage Christian Services Foundation, 349 W.
