Micro-Enterprise Grant workshop offered in Tupper Lake

September 15, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

TUPPER LAKE - People interested in learning more about the Tupper Lake Micro-Enterprise Grant Program, or those who would like assistance in completing the application or business plan, are invited to meet with staff of the Adirondack Economic Development Corporation at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the village offices on Park Street.

The village of Tupper Lake will be offering nearly $200,000 in grant funding to help small businesses get their start or grow to the next level, thanks to a state grant designed to create and retain employment opportunities for low to moderate income individuals and maintain and expand the village's commercial tax base.

The deadline for the initial funding round is Oct. 12. All available funds may be committed in the initial round. AEDC has been contracted to administer the grant on behalf of the village and will be providing the required entrepreneurship training component of the program.

Microenterprises - businesses with five or fewer employees, including the owner - may apply for up to $35,000 in grant funds for working capital, training expenses, inventory and/or equipment purchases under the Tupper Lake Micro-Enterprise Program, funded through the Community Development Block Grant Small Cities Program.

During Wednesday's meeting, AEDC counselors will review in detail the grant application materials. Since the development of a clear business plan will play a key role in determining who gets the grant, they will also be discussing what will be expected in those plans, and how to score the most points in the application process.

The Wednesday session is not required, but is recommended for those who might need some assistance in completing either the application or the business plan. If you can't make the session, but still require assistance, contact either Steve Garneau or Jim Murphy at 518-891-5523 to set up a one-on-one appointment.
