Auditions open for ‘The Nutcracker’ ballet

LAKE PLACID - The North Country Ballet Ensemble will hold auditions at two sites in September for the 2012 performances of "The Nutcracker" in Plattsburgh and Lake Placid.

Dancers of all styles and abilities are invited to attend. All dancers who audition will be cast.

Boys and girls ages 5 to 8 have two venues from which to choose to audition:

-In Lake Placid at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Main Studio, 17 Algonquin Drive.

-In Plattsburgh at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at Clinton Community College's Stafford Theater, 136 Clinton Point Drive.

Dancers older than 8 must audition in Plattsburgh on Sept. 22 at the following times: ages 12 and up (girls should be prepared to dance en pointe) at 10 a.m.; age 11 and up, not en pointe, at noon; and ages 9 and 10 at 1:15 p.m.

Adults are also encouraged to participate in the party scene and may express their interest at the time of the auditions.

A fee of $20 is required at the audition. Participation fees vary by age and will be explained at the parent meeting.

Families are encouraged to pre-register for the audition.

Performances are in Plattsburgh on Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 23 through 25 at the Hartman Theatre at SUNY Plattsburgh, and in Lake Placid on Dec. 1 and 2 at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.
