Assault nets six arrests in Lake Placid

Dispute over boat rental precedes visitors beating up local man

LAKE PLACID - A late-night assault on Main Street here has resulted in six arrests.

Village police arrested Perry S. Gusikoff, 46, of Lagrangeville, Anand Sahadeo, 29, of the Bronx, Chitrohan Bhola, 47, of the Bronx, Bernhard K. Obry, 47, of New Paltz, Steve Bhawanidin, 29, of Queens Village, and Warren Downer, 51, of Hollis, at noon Saturday. They were each charged with second-degree gang assault and second-degree assault, both felonies.

Police said the charges stem from an investigation into an assault during which a local man, who has not been named by police, was seriously injured. The altercation allegedly resulted from a civil dispute over a previous business transaction involving a boat rental.

The assault happened at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, and police said it occurred on a sidewalk on Main Street, in full view of the public. There were several witnesses to the assault, police said.

All six men participated in the assault, police said. The gang assault charge can be leveled when two or more people are involved, police said; it does not imply organized gang activity.

The subjects were processed by police, arraigned in village court and remanded to Essex County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond each.
